This album floored me when I first listened to it. I saw the album cover and a positive review in a music publication. I was grabbed from the first seconds right the way through to the end. That very rarely happens. Every track here is a winner and Tomorrow’s Hits could well be a prophetic title for the album. It could well end up being my favourite album of 2014.

If you are in thrall, equally, with the likes of The Band, Bruce Springsteen and punk, then you will love this album. The album is their most expensively produced so far, and you can tell. The songs are like those classic rock touchstones I just mentioned but roughed and scuffed around the edges giving it a sound all of it’s own. So maybe more Crazy Horse or even The Replacements instead? If you want latter day comparisons, I would liken their sound to Deer Tick and Titus Andronicus.

The album starts off with one of my favourite tracks “Dark Waltz” with it’s melodic vocal line and riffs. That is followed by three songs that are all classic Springsteen-esque rock with a nice scuzzy sheen over them. After that we hit “Sleepless” which could easily have been written by The Band, and then onto the song of the album “Pearly Gates” which is the sound of a punk band if they could jam.

The whole album is a delight from start to finish, and at eight tracks it doesn’t outstay it’s welcome. I can’t wait to hear more from The Men, as their evolution from their earlier albums to now has been quite considerable, so let’s see what they come up with next.
